Operation Christmas Child

Disclaimer: Several old blog posts lie ahead...playing catch up (are you sick of me saying this yet?) And several posts, including this one, only have pictures taken with my phone, so the quality isn't great.

Shortly before Thanksgiving, our small group went to the Operation Christmas Child warehouse for their family day even in which all the kids got to 'Be the Box' for a day and see what actually happens with the boxes we prepare for kids. OCC is part of Samaritan's Purse, an amazing humanitarian organization started by Franklin Graham, Billy Graham's son. And every year the kids put together gift boxes and we usually just drop them off at church. The kids don't really have a concept of where they go and the purpose, so this was a great way for them to understand it a bit better.

The kids made their box covers and wore them around their necks

The kids loaded in the cargo bins....

They 'travelled' across the ocean on a boat and then on a plane...

...and arrived in India

They learned what living conditions are like for the kids who receive the boxes as well as the gospel message that is shared with the kids.

Drew and Wyatt are pushing one of the boxes at the end of the line while Jack waits to be loaded up (this was not part of the 'tour' but we had fun sneaking off for a bit)
Afterwards, we all went out for pizza and thankfully it was the day of our first snowfall, so there weren't many people in the restaurant. And I say thankfully, because we were not a quiet group! But we had a great time and the kids can't wait until they are old enough to volunteer to pack the boxes at the facility.
