I had to post a few pictures from the AWANA boat races last month. Yes, there was quite a bit of snow still on the ground (although we still had this much snow just over a week ago as well!). Each spring they do boat races for the SPARKS and little wooden derby car races for the TNT kids (3rd-5th graders). The boats come in a kit and the kids have to put them together on their own and decorate them however they like. Sadie's boat didn't win but she still had lots of fun!
(A few pics in the parking lot--swimming lessons just started and we had a few weeks of swimming followed immediately by AWANA, but now that AWANA is done, our Wednesdays aren't quite so crazy!)

The boats were powered by the kids' lungs--there were some seriously light-headed kids by the end of it all!

And she's off! Each kid was paired against another kid, but thankfully it was double elimination so they each got to race at least twice!
Excuse the blurry phone picture, but Wyatt and Lillie decided to race each other at the end of the night since neither of them got to do the boat races (Lillie is in TNT so she did the car races and Wyatt did BSF with Matt this year, so he hasn't been in AWANA). Wyatt got the kid with the winning boat to let him use it to race against Lillie, but Lillie still won! I guess it has less to do with the boat and more to do with the kid blowing on it!!
