Stormy Lake--with an unexpected twist

So our original plan was to head up to Stormy for a few days to hang out and then the Kuch family and Lutz family would join us for the New Year's weekend. But when my in-laws got up to their cabin, they found that the heat had been turned off (or never turned on--who knows which) and all their pipes had frozen and burst. Apparently it was quite the scene, but thankfully our place is close so Matt's parents, Tyler, Mollie and Ty's friend all ended up crashing at our place while restoration crews came in to clean up.

Matt and I went out X-country skiing several mornings to get a workout in. (Matt knows that just about my only complaint about being at Stormy in the winter is my inability to get a good sweat going, so he bought me these as an early birthday present and boy were they awesome!! X-country skiing is a great workout if you keep up a pretty good pace.)
We had a few good laughs relearning how to x-country ski, as opposed to downhill!
Fresh tracks on the lake
Boy do I love living life with this guy! We seriously have so much fun--and we laughed pretty hard this morning!
One of our neighbors up there had snowplowed a rink on the lake--it was pretty sweet!
It never ceases to amaze me that we are walking on the lake when we are out there skiing! And it's always fun to watch the ice fishermen in their ice houses out there in the middle.
A common sight that first morning out….but he wasn't the only one!
I was fine going across the lake but as soon as we got into the woods and had to go down a few little hills bumps, I had a hard time adjusting to the different boot and figuring out how to actually turn my skis. As a result, I ended up in the trees and could not get myself out. Matt just sat back and laughed and took pictures (even video--which doesn't need to be included here).
There were lots of books to be read--Blake loved doing the I SPY books with Ty's friend Niko.
And some serious snowball fights!
Nice shot Blake!!
Mollie had a pretty good hiding spot
But Blake's was the best!
Check out the massive snowball fight going on at the top of the bowl (that's what we call it) while Blake is sitting under the protection of his sled mid-way down the bowl.
Content to let Wyatt stand guard for him!
But then he found a new buddy!
And the weather was so beautiful that day (in the 30s) that we decided to make a 'greeter' at the end of the driveway.
And of course, Wyatt and Blake loved having two more guys around who wanted to play some Wii with them (Wyatt got the Sonic and Mario Olympics so they were excited to play snowboarding/ski jumping/bobsledding/etc)
We had a great time having every there while they started to sort things out at their place. And the day they left, the Kuchs and Lutzs showed up for more fun!
